Planning a TPC Scottsdale Golf Trip? Stay 15 Minutes Away

Tee-time strategy, a four-day group itinerary, WM Phoenix Open week, and why a house beats two resort rooms.

If you are planning a TPC Scottsdale golf trip, here is the math that matters: our house is 15 minutes from the first tee, sleeps 11, and costs less per golfer than two resort rooms — with a private pool, hot tub, pool table and a garage for the clubs. We host golf groups all season; this is the playbook we share.

PLAYING TPC. The Stadium Course — the one with the par-3 16th stadium hole you have watched a thousand times — is fully public. In peak season (January–April), tee times open 90 days out and the prime Friday–Sunday slots go fast; set a calendar reminder and book the moment your window opens. The Champions Course next door runs about half the rate with the same conditioning, and makes a great second round or a warm-up day. Summer twilight rates on both are the best-kept secret in Arizona golf — yes it is hot, but you are playing TPC for a fraction of February pricing, and the pool is waiting.

BUILD THE ITINERARY AROUND ONE MARQUEE ROUND PER DAY. Our standard group blueprint: Day one, land, grocery run (5 minutes from the house), range session at Topgolf Scottsdale (12 minutes) to shake off the flight, dinner at Yard House or The Keg at Desert Ridge. Day two, TPC Stadium in the morning, pool and hot tub recovery, steaks on the grill. Day three, Grayhawk or We-Ko-Pa, then Old Town Scottsdale for dinner at Citizen Public House and a proper night out, twenty minutes door to door. Day four, Wildfire Golf Club — five minutes away at the JW Marriott — for the getaway-day round, then fly home pretending you will keep the swing changes.

THE SUPPORTING CAST. Within 25 minutes you also have Grayhawk (NCAA championship host, two courses), Troon North (the high-desert benchmark), We-Ko-Pa (36 holes, no houses, pure desert), Lookout Mountain (12 minutes, sneaky-good value) and Papago (the beloved muni). You could play a different elite course every day for two weeks without repeating.

WM PHOENIX OPEN WEEK. Late January–early February, the Open turns TPC into the loudest, most fun sporting event in golf — 200,000 people on Saturday alone. Staying with us that week means you are essentially commuting from next door while hotel prices triple. Book the house months ahead; it is our most requested week of the year.

WHY A HOUSE BEATS A RESORT FOR GOLF GROUPS: everyone gets a real bed (4 bedrooms, 6 beds, 3 baths), the 19th hole is your own backyard with a pool and fire pit, breakfast happens in shorts at your own kitchen island, and the pool table settles the presses. Bring the trophy belt; we have seen groups invent entire ceremonies on the patio. Check the calendar and claim your week.

BUDGET MATH FOR A FOURSOME: peak-season Stadium course green fees are a splurge, but the rest of the trip does not have to be. Champions, Lookout Mountain, Papago and twilight slots keep rounds two through four reasonable, groceries for breakfasts and one grill night save a couple hundred dollars over restaurant mornings, and splitting the house four ways usually beats two double-occupancy resort rooms by a wide margin — with a private pool, hot tub and pool table thrown in. Put the savings toward the 16th-hole merch tent; you will want the souvenir.

OFF-COURSE HOURS: recovery soaks in the hot tub, the pool table for settling presses, Topgolf for the rematch, and Old Town for the one big night out. If a non-golfer joins the trip, the spa day-passes at the JW Marriott five minutes away (or the pool at the house with total silence) have kept many a golf trip marriage-approved.
